My Midnight Walk
Evening was slowly turning to night. My siblings and I had just finished dinner with our grandparents, and were going to get ready for bed. Suddenly, we had an idea. My siblings and I decided that it would be cool to sleep in my grandparent’s camper, so we went over to them and asked both them and our parents for permission. Because we had been well-behaved all day, they gave us permission to spend the night in the camper. My siblings and I were filled with joy, and quickly got ready for bed.
When we got to the camper, my siblings and I couldn’t hold in our excitement. We joked around and played for a bit until we finally got too tired to continue. We all got into our beds and one by one, we closed our eyes and dozed off. Being the young kids we were, my siblings and I were prone to wet our beds if given the right dream. That night was no different for me when it came to having to use the bathroom so late at night. The only difference this time was that I awoke randomly. I remember opening my eyes to total darkness, then feeling a sudden urge to release. I quickly tore off my blankets and crept to the door. I made sure to go slowly through the camper so as to not wake anyone else up.
When I managed to open the camper door and step outside, I was hit with a breeze that sent a shiver down my spine. The moon was out so I was able to see somewhat clearly. I slowly put my foot down onto the ground, then the other foot, and then I was off. As I made my way to the house, I could hear the loud chirping of the thousands of crickets, the guzzle of the mini
water fountains in the three mini ponds, and the calming sway of the trees as the wind swept through them. When I reached the porch, I took extra care not to trip on the stairs. This whole time, I was thinking that I’d be in and out without a sound. I did not want that to end.
I went to slide the door open, but then a sudden feeling of dread fell over me. The door was locked. I tried again to open the door, but this time with a bit more force. This time the door opened.
“Oh” I thought, “It was just stuck”.
After getting the door open, I quickly and quietly made my way to the bathroom. Once in the bathroom, I turned on the light so I could see, and then relieved myself. With my business finally over with, I decided to head back to bed. I realized I was too tired to head back to the camper, so I went and crashed on the couch. When I awoke the next day, the entire thing had left my mind.
