The Snap
They were out late walking in the woods with their dog. Everything seemed normal, the moon was full and vibrant, illuminating the forest floor with it’s radiating light. Both were lost in thought, thinking about who knows what. Something catches the attention of the dog, and it dashes into the undergrowth. A few minutes go by.
*snap*
“What was that?” one asked.
“Just the dog chasing some poor animal,” the other answers.
“Are you sure, I don’t think the dog went in that direction,” the first says
“Yeah I'm sure,” the second says.
Another few minutes go by.
*SNAP*
“Jack, where are you?” the first says, “Come here boy.”
They both stop and listen. Nothing. All sound has vanished, and the moon vanishes behind some clouds.
“I don’t like where this is going, that sounded closer than last time,” the first says nervously.
“You’re thinking to much about this,” the second replies with, “It’s just Jack,”
Both continue to walk along the path, eyes darting in all directions. They just turn a corner when they see Jack resting beside a log.
“See… It’s just Jack,” the second says.
As they approach the dog, their eyes widen in horror. Slumped against the log was a mummified Jack. All traces of liquid in the body were gone.
“Wh… who could have done this?!” The first cries, tears forming in their eyes.
The second, shocked at what they were seeing, does nothing.
“We need… to… call the… pol… police,” the first manages to sob through a face full of tears.
*SNAP*
Both turn towards the source of the sound There, between the trees, is a pair of glowing eyes. They shriek, and then nothing.
